Seafood Risotto
Well, to my surprise I did go out to dinner this evening with some cousins of mine.  It was very sweet of them to call me up to invite me.  I was touched by the act of kindness to be honest. Anyways I did leave Kennebunkport & went to Saco of all places for a lovely dinner. Your probably thinking Saco really? And, yes Saco was where I ended up.  Saco comes to mind with Rapid Rays & Funtown USA & Cinnemagic of all the big names out in the city, besides the Amtrak train station & the old mill town with the rich Franco American cultural on the Saco River. With the new "Farm to Table Cuisine" in the Restaurant world, as I get on my chef hat with the lingo here that I do know too well by having chefs as friends.  The Chef & The Gardener located on 345 North Street (Route 112/Buxton Road) Saco, right after the turn off for the Saco Industrialist Park & before the Saco Middle School is this hidden gem of a restaurant. It's very tiny inside & reservations are highly recommended.  One cousin of mine said it reminded her of the pubs in Ireland the size of the restaurant. It's quite charming inside with a nice bar & a blackboard listing the specials of the day.  All items use pretty much fresh local ingredients on what is in season & the availability that offer meat, seafood, vegetarian, vegan & gluten free dishes.  I was quite impressed with the service & how knowledgeable the waitress was too.   They have a lovely wine selection & they actually give you a taste to see if you like the wine before you actually purchase a glass, which I thought was a nice touch. They do give you a good size glass of wine for the money value too, that's always a plus too. The appetizers were reasonably price & offer a good portion. We had the Maine Crab Cakes with a Mango Chutney & the Lobster Dip with mascarpone & goat cheese served with toasted pita bread.  I quite enjoyed the Seafood Risotto for a main course, where as my other family members enjoyed the Cornmeal Crusted Chicken & Greek Chicken Saute.  Deseret with the Profiterole was a beautiful touch to finish the evening off.  Funny, I've seen the logo somewhere in my travels & it just clicked that I did see it on Tom's bulletin board at the Family Acupuncture Center. Overall, I would go back to The Chef & The Gardener for a lovely meal out! Farm Fresh is the way to go! The customer's refer to it as "a hidden gem" & you must go to see why.
