When traveling the least expected things can happen at any
moment & you just need to breath, hold no attachment to them & be
present in the moment. I had to remind myself of that today. I started my day
with a lovely stroll on a beautiful crispy sunny spring day in Brooklyn walking
along the
Brooklyn Heights Promenade.
There are some spectacular views of the city. I found my way walking under the
Brooklyn Bridge & found the famous carousel.
I walked around DUMBO before catching the train into town to
Wall Street. I’m not a big fan of this part of the city. Mainly cos it’s the
oldest part of New York with rich colonial history. Don’t get me wrong that it’s
not worth exploring, but it’s just not my cup of tea.
I made my way over to Pier 11 for the East River Ferry
East River Ferry to meet
a friend. Apparently, you can take a single ride uptown for $4USD or it’s a
$12USD daily pass. We choose the one way ticket to Long Island City in Queens
where we took a train down to Flushing Street.
Your thinking that I’m nuts for going all the way down to
Flushing, but it was like being back in China. My friend that I was with was
telling me that Queens has a variety of different ethnic groups & it’s way
cheaper to go get food than in Manhattan. He was also telling me that
restaurants test their ideas in the borough first before making it was to the
city. It’s a great place. The main destination in Flushing was the
Golden Mall to eat at Xi’an
Xi'an Foods where the
foodies go. Anthony Bourdain & Andrew Zimmerman have been. It was yum. I
had the Lian Pi “Coldkin” Noodles. A very spicy vegetarian cold noodles that
were homemade & amazing! Ah, an authentic meal indeed.
After my quick visit to Flushing for
“lunch” I made it back to the city, parted ways with my friend & ended up
in
Times Square. In
Times Square I just walked threw to make
my way uptown to get to 5
th Avenue. I had a specific plan in mind.
On my way I walked passed the “Bluth Family Banana Stand” from
Arrested Development that was diagonal across
from Radio City Music Hall. The cast was there passing out chocolate bananas. I
finally made my way to FAO Swartz
FAO Swartz
to play on the piano from
Big. I’ve
wanted to play
The Big Piano since I
first saw the movie
Big. I had a fun
during my two minute of fun times. I quite enjoyed looking at all of the Lego
sculptures in the store too.
Overall, I would recommend going to FAO to be a kid. I concluded my day
with meeting another friend over in Chelsea to attend the 7PM Monday night
meditation class at
Kadampa Meditation Center . It was a nice place to go to
conclude my day & to find some peace within. Good night Brooklyn, I have
enjoyed you today with the adventures…
